Hello, I am writing you because I do not know where to start. I told my husband of 5 years that I want a divorce. I thought we could handle everything ourselves since we both checked out of the relationship a little over a year ago. Today he informed me we will be fighting over our son who is 7. The agreement we came to before this was he could have him during the week while school was in and I would have him during the week in the summer and we would share holidays. My husband is in the Army and has been stationed in Korea since January. he is not in a war zone or in a field he has a desk job. He will be getting med boarded soon, he hasn't said when he is coming home. This is his 2nd time stationed in Korea in the last 4 years. I am a student and work at Best Buy part time. Is there a way I can hire an attorney and have him pay for it? I know he is in the process of changing our bank account I received his new debit card by accident today. He also has a thrift savings plan that he has inquired about I received a letter "well address to him" stating he wanting the account number. I don't have the money to fight him for our son. I have been the only stable thing in his life. When he was 2 my husband joined the Army. He was sent to school for 6.5 mo then to Korea for a year. We pcs to Missouri in 2009 where we bought our home. He then went back to Korea in Jan 2012. We my son and I moved here this summer to be around family and my husband was supposed to come to Ft Stewart in Jan. Then he told me he is staying in Korea till Aug, until I said I wanted a divorce. Now he is getting med boarded and I don't know when he is coming home. If you can not help can you please point me in the right direction. I just want to be divorced from him and move on with my life. I don't want to battle with him for months or even years. Thank you for listening,

I am sorry to hear about your current situation. I recommend contacting a Georgia family law attorney as soon as possible to discuss your situation. If you do not know where to find an attorney, call the local bar association in your area for a referral. Explain to them that you need a low-cost attorney to help you with your case.  In addition, read http://www.gabar.org/newsandpublications/consumerpamphlets/upload/divorce_09.pdf for general information about filing for divorce in Georgia.
